When we are learning English language then it is common that we make mistakes. One of the most common area in which we make mistakes is in grammar usage. Along with grammar we do make mistakes during several situations. So let us see some of the reasons why we make such mistakes and how to solve those mistakes.
Most of the mistakes that we do in English grammar occur due to the lack of clarity while using the sentences. Sentences may be very confusing because of this reason. We may use too many unnecessary words or phrases and make the sentence look disagreement with the other parts of speech. So we have to construct some good sentences. Here are some tips for your sentence formation:
- One thought should be conveyed in single sentence. Don’t try to put more thoughts in a single sentence which leads to the confusion in understanding.
- The more complex our ideas, the shorter and simpler our sentences should be.
- Check for the agreement between all the parts of a sentence which are logically related to each other.
- Check for the tense that we are using whether that sentence is conveying the time that you want to tell.
- Check the sentence again after the formation so that we can find ourselves whether it is in good form or having any mistakes.
- Check for the singular and plural forms as we have discussed in the earlier posts.
- Check for the punctuation and usage of capital letters.

Check for the redundancy:
When we are forming sentences we use the repeated words which mean the same but are different words. This is one of the common grammar mistakes that people often do.
E.g. My cousin sister is coming today to my home.
In the above sentence, both the words cousin and sister mean the same. So we have to avoid this kind of redundancies.
This redundancy also occurs when we use a long sentence in which it becomes difficult to find out the redundancy.
Check for the subject and verb agreement in the sentences.
When we are forming the sentences we should check for the subject and verb agreement. We already came to know all the cases regarding this in our previous post on forming correct sentences. So when we have a singular subject then we have to use the singular verb and when are having a plural subject then we have to use a plural verb.
E.g. She dislikes all the works, making the work more delay.
In this sentence “she” is a singular subject and “dislikes” is a singular verb. So the subject is in agreement with the singular verb.
Check for the proper parallelism in the sentences:
When we are using more than one sentence then check for the parallelism which means that the second sentence must match with tense as well as form with the first sentence.
E.g. We can reduce body weight by never take oily foods, doing exercises, or reduce eating food.
In this sentence, the part of sentence “never take oily foods” is not in proper tense that is in agreement with the first part of the sentence “we can reduce the body weight”. So we have to remove this kind of mistakes in our sentences when using some larger sentences.
The correct sentence for the above sentence is:
We can reduce body weight by never taking oily foods, doing exercises, or reduce eating food.
Using wrong verb tense.
We need to use the proper tense according to the situation and time. Wrong verb tense will lead to the utter grammar mistakes.
Let us continue the same topic with the continuing post and learn more about the same.
