Developing your own style of writing

The only thing that dif­fer­en­ti­ates a writer from the oth­ers is the style of writ­ing. Style of writ­ing makes any writer to rec­og­nize him uniquely. This style may be included in the way of writ­ing as descrip­tion of the sit­u­a­tion, struc­ture, rep­e­ti­tion, par­al­lel struc­ture, punc­tu­a­tion etc. Style of any writer makes the audi­ence attract to his writ­ings. So it is very impor­tant to have good style of writ­ing. Fol­low these steps to develop good style of writing.

  1. Style of the sen­tences:
    1. When the sen­tences are becom­ing large and with many num­bers which makes the read­ers very dif­fi­cult to read, then try to use sim­ple sen­tences, short sen­tences by cut­ting the sen­tences for the bet­ter under­stand­ing of the mean­ing. Try to avoid the usage of more num­bers or years which reduces the reader’s inter­est and makes them dif­fi­cult to remem­ber. Try to use the coor­di­na­tion and sub­or­di­na­tion of the sen­tences to show more rela­tion­ship among the sentences.
    2. Try to express the ideas more clearly using the proper usage of sim­ple, com­pound, com­plex sen­tences and com­pound com­plex sen­tences which also make bet­ter style of writing.
    3. Try to reduce the usage of clichés and rep­e­ti­tion of the words that reduces the inter­est of the read­ers. Always try to explain the sit­u­a­tion with some example.
    4. Try to focus and stress the sub­ject that you want to empha­size. Sub­ject of the sen­tences influ­ences the read­ers much. So try to empha­size them much with the idea that you want to tell.
  2. Describ­ing the sit­u­a­tions:
    1. Describe the sit­u­a­tions using adjec­tives and adverbs which bring out the real beauty and impor­tance of idea that you want to express. When you want to avoid a very long sen­tences then use the sen­tence modifiers.
    2. Usage of the adjec­tives and adverbs makes the sen­tences very short and clearly.
  3. Rep­e­ti­tion of the words:

Rep­e­ti­tion of the impor­tant ideas and key words make the idea more impor­tant and stresses that idea. Only the repeated ideas or the words con­tain the main idea. This is a key ele­ment in many of the speeches and writings.

  • Usage of the voice:

Try to use the active voice in the writ­ings. Active voice makes the sen­tences more inter­est­ing and clear than the pas­sive voices. The per­son pro­noun “you” gives your writ­ing more effec­tive as it addresses the reader directly. Using “you” shows more impact on the reader than any other forms of per­sons like we, he, she etc.

  • Cor­rect punctuation:

Punc­tu­a­tion is very impor­tant to show our writ­ing style as punc­tu­a­tion shows crit­i­cal writ­ing style and shows the impor­tance of the link­age of the sen­tences. Punc­tu­a­tion is some­times expressed in the form of coor­di­nat­ing and sub­or­di­nat­ing sen­tences. Give the com­plete descrip­tion of the sen­tences and don’t use the declar­a­tive sen­tences. Use the comma sep­a­rated coor­di­nat­ing sen­tences to show the rela­tion­ship between the sen­tences. Try to use good and cor­rect coor­di­nat­ing adverbs or con­junc­tive verbs.

Be clear in what you want to write

  • Think before writ­ing and decide what you want to write and then start writ­ing. This i=will cre­ate a flow in your writ­ing and makes it very easy to write any­thing. Write only the things that you know then the writ­ing will show the exact infor­ma­tion and shows truth in the con­tent. When you are writ­ing write with some author­ity and write with inter­est which brings out the good article.

Don’t edit

  • Write the things what­ever that comes into your mind imme­di­ately and don’t try to edit and change your ideas after the com­ple­tion. This will pro­duce the pow­er­ful and good writ­ings. Try to use goo words and images that make the con­tent more clear for a per­son who is read­ing your arti­cle. An image is more pow­er­ful than writ­ing. Try to write the con­tent that comes into your imme­di­ately. You will feel very free and relaxed while writ­ing and you will get some more ideas when write with some music. Try to express all your emo­tions that you get into the words which make the reader more involved.

Read some­thing about the topic before writing

  • For writ­ing any­thing per­fectly we need to have some opin­ion or some infor­ma­tion about that topic. With­out any infor­ma­tion we can’t write any­thing. Even if you write like this then it won’t make the read­ers to feel about the arti­cle. So read about that topic some­where or dis­cuss the topic with the peo­ple who are hav­ing some knowl­edge in those top­ics. Also we all know that no per­son on this earth will know every­thing on this earth and no one is per­fect. So try to get the infor­ma­tion and then only start writing.

Form some structure

  • Before writ­ing some­thing first think about that topic in your mind what you want to write and in which way you want to write. When you form some basic struc­ture in your mind will surely form good read­ings and gives the read­ers a flow of read­ing. This flow is very impor­tant when they are read­ing. Form­ing struc­ture not only makes the reader eas­ier to read but also makes it very easy to write. Par­tic­u­larly there are any fixed for­mats for the struc­ture that you should fol­low. You can form the read­ing in a struc­ture in what­ever you want. Always try to fol­low low descrip­tion to higher level or higher level to lower level. These meth­ods are gen­er­ally called as bot­tom to top and top to bot­tom respectively.

Try to avoid gram­mar, spelling and punc­tu­a­tion mistakes

  • The mean­ing of the sen­tences may change com­pletely when we make any gram­mar or spelling or punc­tu­a­tion mis­takes. The change in the mean­ing depends upon the sit­u­a­tion and some­times the change may be minor. When you are writ­ing we should take very much care about these mis­takes. To avoid these mis­takes we have to review the arti­cle once again and try to rec­tify any of the mis­takes that you find.
